Which Jumeirah Beach Area to Choose
“Jumeirah Beach” can refer to different parts of Dubai’s coastline. Dubai Municipality lists Jumeira Beach in Jumeirah as open to the public, while Dubai’s beach options also include Kite Beach, Sunset Beach, Al Sufouh Beach, Jumeirah Public Beach (Nessnass Beach) and The Beach at JBR.
For a visit focused on the shore, compare the public beach locations; for dining, shops and activities alongside the sand, look at JBR.
At JBR, the beach runs for 1.7 km. Most of it is free and public, though some sections are used by hotels and require hotel-guest status or a beach day pass.
You can bring your own beach items or hire sunbeds, towels, lockers and cabanas by the day. Dubai Municipality lists Jumeira Beach in Jumeirah as public, but does not specify daily opening hours.
Sunset Beach is another option if surfing or fishing is part of your plan. Visit Dubai says its night-swimming lighting allows swimming 30 metres out to sea until the lights turn off at midnight. Entry is free, and no reservation is required. The address is 22 Al Sagi Street, Umm Suqeim, Dubai.

Public Access and Beach Facilities
JBR suits a beach visit that also includes food or other activities. The Beach at JBR has an outdoor gym, a beach volleyball court and a 600-metre running track, alongside restaurants, cafés, shops and an air-conditioned cinema. Water activities listed there include jet skiing, paddling, parasailing, kayaking, banana boat rides and water skiing.
Dubai Municipality lists Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3, Umm Suqeim 1 and Umm Suqeim 2 as locations with accessible beach facilities. These include wheelchair-accessible paths and ramps, accessible changing rooms and showers, and beach or floating wheelchairs at selected locations. Jumeirah Beach 2 also has dedicated sensory facilities for visitors with autism and sensory sensitivities.
If you are planning to swim at night, Dubai Municipality designates Jumeirah 2, Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1 for night swimming. The initiative covers 800 metres in total. Swimming is permitted between sunset and sunrise at these beaches, which have lighting systems and qualified rescuers on site.
How to Get There from Downtown Dubai
For JBR, public transport gives you a way to avoid driving into the beachfront area. Dubai Tram stops at Jumeirah Beach Residence 1 and Jumeirah Beach Residence 2; Sobha Realty and DMCC are metro-tram interchange stations.
JBR is also served by bus routes 8 and 84. Route 8 runs from Deira along Jumeirah Beach Road to JBR and continues to Ibn Battuta Mall, while route 84 runs from Al Quoz to JBR.
Check the Dubai Metro guide when planning a rail journey, and look at the network connections before choosing a route. A Downtown stay can also pair a beach outing with a city itinerary; the Downtown Dubai sightseeing plan covers ideas for time in the area. Roda Al Murooj Residences is a Downtown Dubai base; see Roda Al Murooj Residences.
Listed Metro hours are Monday–Thursday 05:00–00:00, Friday 05:00–01:00 the next day, Saturday 05:00–00:00 and Sunday 08:00–00:00. Tram hours are Monday–Saturday 06:00–01:00 the next day and Sunday 09:00–01:00 the next day.
Parking and Local Transport
If you drive to JBR, parking is available at The Beach mall and other car parks in JBR. From Sheikh Zayed Road, the listed access is via Exit 29. The area can be busy on evenings, weekends and holidays, so public transport may be a useful alternative when you want to avoid searching for a space.
Underground parking at The Beach at JBR costs AED 20 per hour. Three hours of free parking are available when you spend AED 100 or more at a participating outlet. Another option is free parking at Jabal Ali Metro station, then continuing by Metro and tram to JBR.
What to Check Before You Go
Opening hours and transport schedules can affect your plan, and beach facilities vary by location. Dubai Municipality’s beach information covers public access, night swimming and accessible facilities; RTA provides rail details; Visit Dubai covers JBR transport and parking. Check the official site before you go.
For a straightforward visit, choose the beach area first, then match your transport and facilities to that location. JBR combines public sand with dining and activities, while Sunset Beach is listed for surfing and fishing. If accessibility features or night swimming matter to your plans, confirm the details for the specific beach you intend to use.
